Bible Book:
1 John

If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. (v. 9)

Psalm 119:161-168

Background

I love hearing other people's life stories. Listening to someone share the highs and lows of life and the complexities of what brought them to this point is always fascinating. It’s also good just to laugh with people sometimes as they retell their most recent mishap. And sometimes there are moments when we silently listen to someone unburden themselves of the pain, grief and heartache they are feeling in that moment.  All of these testify to lives lived and the experiences that have taken place. It is how we get to know people and understand who they are and what they are about.

It is the same for God and his son Jesus. We know them by the stories that are told of them. These stories come to us in Scripture and also in the created world we live in. They come to us in our everyday experiences as we seek to find God revealed in the world. It is as we hear and see these stories about God played out before us that we grow closer in our relationship with our creator, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

What can be a greater testament to all God is doing than to look out at the universe and understand that God is at the very heart of it. There is no better story than that of Jesus who came to live, eat, drink and die among us and for us.

To Ponder:

  • What is the best story you have ever been told or read?
  • When was the last time you spent time sharing stories with your friends?
  • What assures you of God’s presence the most at this time?
